Other works of mine include the memorial
sculpture at Houghton College in western New York State. In
this sculpture, six life -size bronze eagles soar upward symbolizing the
hope of life and the freedom of the soul. See also: my solitary
osprey atop a weather vane at the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor,
N.J.; a bright flock of
gulls in stainless steel for a park in N.J.; a Great Horned Owl in
iron for a school in Philadelphia; and a Red-Tail
Hawk at the Sun Company in St. Davids, PA.
Recent influences on my work come from my home and studio which are
now on the Big Island of Hawaii. In addition to birds, I also have
been sculpting
orchids and offer some here. These pieces are fabricated from
bronze and have bases made from the tropical woods of the island.
They are all one-of-a-kind; so you see the piece being offered.
New pieces come along as my plants bloom.
Since moving to Hawaii, I have become aware of the many beautiful
tropical woods that grow here. On my own property is a Macadamia
nut orchard. I found this wood too beautiful to waste when a
tree came down, so I bought a wood lathe. While Koa is the best
known of our woods, there are other
beautiful woods here that are virtually unknown off the
island. I limit my wood turnings to trees that have to come down,
and offer some of my bowls and vases here.
